RBC Sport custom cycling shoesToday I had my feet cast for my new pair of bespoke track cycling shoes. Clint from RBC Sport flew all the way down from Queensland for the day to cast World Keirin Champion Shane Perkins, my teammates Azizul Awang, Fatehah Mustapa and myself.
RBC Sport has been in the custom shoe industry for many years. They started out with custom speed skating boots and inline skate boots but soon took that technology over to cycling.
I have had the privilege of using many top brands of “custom” cycling shoes over the years but this particular shoe maker is the creme de la creme. Other shoe makers have made bold claims of having custom shoes but in my opinion they have only touched the surface as far as their technology is concerned. Lets just say that marketing plays a big part of it. I would describe them as “made to measure” at best vs RBC’s fully bespoke shoes. Clint personally does all the detailed prep work every step of the way. Each pair takes many days of intense labour to produce the final product which is a piece of art! The materials he uses are sourced from Europe, America and Asia and is very carefully hand crafted with a touch like artisan shoemaker from Italy.
I look forward to my 2nd pair of shoes from RBC but I will have to be patient as it will take about 4 weeks before I can try out the new and improved version of what is already a very beautiful and powerful shoe.
